The Far Post

 2007 - 2008   RULES

  • Adult, U13-U18, and high school teams play field 5 players plus one keeper are allowed on the field at any give time.  

  • U9, U10, U11, U12 and house league teams play 6 field players plus a keeper.

  • Co-ed teams play 5 field players plus a keeper. One woman must play on the field.

  • Each team must have same colored jerseys. If a color conflict exists, the home team will change.

  •   League games are 40 minutes - running clock. No overtime.

  • Tournament games are 24 minutes – running clock. No overtime.

  • Substitutions are on the fly and may be made at anytime. The substituted player must be off the field and within two yards of bench, before change can be made.

  • No offsides.

  • Balls leaving the playing field over the end line will result in a goal kick or corner kick.

  • Goal kicks can be taken from anywhere in the goal/penalty box.

  • Goal kicks can cross midfield in the air.

  • Balls leaving the playing field over the touchline will result in a throw-in. 

  • Throw-ins are indirect. All free kicks are direct.

  • "Defensive" restarts resulting from a foul in the box may be kicked from anywhere in the box.

  • Defending players must be at least five yards from the ball on all restarts and outside the box on a "defensive" restart.

  • Keeper cannot play a pass with hands. Keepers can play a headed pass with hands.

  • Keeper must distribute within 6 seconds.

  • Punts and drop-kicks are illegal. A punt or drop kick will result in a direct kick from midfield for the opposing team. 

  • Keeper throws must touch either the floor or a player from either team before crossing midfield. Violations result in free kick at midfield. 

  • If a ball hits the ceiling, play is restarted by a free kick. If a ball hits the ceiling above the box, the kick will be placed at the top of the D mark.

  • NO SLIDING, except for a keeper slide that starts inside the box.

  • A yellow card requires the carded player to sit out for a 2 minute period and the team will played shorthanded. The team must play shorthanded the full 2 minute period despite any goal that might be allowed. A player receiving a 2nd yellow card or one red card will be required to leave the field. The team will play shorthanded for the remainder of the game.

  • If a team gets ahead of another team by more than 4 goals the referees will be instructed to allow the losing team to add an extra player on the field until such time the losing team scores 2 goals bringing the score within 2 goals or until the game ends. It is the losing team's choice to not take advantage of this "house courtesy rule".

  • The Far Post reserves the right to permanently suspend unruly players, coaches or teams.

  • Reckless play will not be tolerated and can result in suspension.

  • No gum or food in field area. No spitting. 

  • No protests.

Tournaments     

 Standings and tiebreakers will be determined as follows:

  1. Most points [win= 3, tie= 1, loss= 0]

  2. Head to head [does not apply if more than two teams are tied in points]

  3. Goals against

  4. Goal differential [max of +3 or -3 per game]

  5. If 3 way tie, coin flip and odd team is out.

  6. If 2-way tie.  Drop ball at midfield, 4v4 with no keepers.

 Playoff games

            If tied at the end of regulation, 4v4 with no keepers, golden goal.
